* L–Shaped Kitchen – this is the most popular kitchen design. It consists of a long leg and a shorter one and this type of design can be used in small and large kitchens. The L–shaped kitchen gives you the possibility of having a center island depending on the space available. In general, this design will have 2 or 3 appliances on one wall. The usual arrangement is to have the refrigerator at one end, the range or cooktop at the other end with the sink located in the middle. This shape of kitchen generally provides good traffic flow.
Another central part of kitchen remodeling will be picking the correct lighting, from general light fittings for kitchens to light fittings for kitchen islands. When your kitchen has a high ceiling then a single ceiling lighting fixture may possibly not be enough to illuminate the whole room. Think about special types of lighting arrangement for different parts of the kitchen such as; under shelf lighting, pendants, chandeliers, semi–flush lighting, or recessed lighting if you can afford to have that done.
· The kitchen is crowded. Technology has invaded the kitchen space. Today, a homeowner uses several kitchen appliances that were non–existent a few years ago. As a result, old kitchens have become crowded. If you find that the kitchen counter–top and the dining table is covered with kitchen appliances, dinner plates, glasses, cooking pots etc., start thinking of hiring a renovation contractor. If you hire an experienced contractor, he will able to suggest you with modern ideas for increasing space in the kitchen. Ask him to make optimum use of the free space by adding more cabinets in the kitchen.
Many of my clients have, unfortunately, initiated the design of their kitchen without an understanding of the extent of what is actually involved in the process, in terms of design, budget, timeline and other issues. In these cases, our design process together, was frustrating for the client and for me. As a result, this article will clarify the process so that you will have the opportunity to become better informed before you begin your kitchen project, thereby avoiding uninformed decisions or possibly spending time and/or money needlessly.
