The kitchen is the workshop of the homemaker. In the average household, she spends the equivalent of 3 full months a year – 24 hours a day around the clock – in preparing, cooking and serving food, baking cakes and pies, and washing pots and pans. Modernizing a kitchen to make it more enjoyable to work in, to add extra conveniences and time–savers is the ideal of every homemaker. The kitchen is a room that calls for a large outlay of money, but once it is wisely built, you‘ll be happy you made the investment.
For energy to flow in harmony around your kitchen it should not encounter obstacles. The square design of kitchen furniture and appliances often make the kitchen a sharp room filled with angles that may not necessarily promote positive chi. We should therefore not create more problems by placing tables, island units and butchers blocks slap bang in the middle of the kitchen floor. If we do have items blocking the centre of the kitchen we may find that positive energy is blocked from flowing around the kitchen and we may find that we ourselves have difficulty in digesting our food.
What‘s determines your kitchen layout? You‘ve heard of the phrase "form follows function". This is true when it comes to the layout of a kitchen. There are, however, some basic kitchen layout shapes i.e. Straight, Galley, L, U, and G that are based on the work triangle. The work triangle is formed by tracing an invisible line between the sink, range, and refrigerator. No leg of the triangle is shorter than 4 feet nor longer than 9 feet. With the total of all legs not being greater than 26 feet.
There is no Use of Existing Appliances. Do you have kitchen appliances that you no longer use? It is important to remember that appliances take up the maximum amount of space. And, if there are several appliances that do not function properly, it is time to discard them. You should also make a list of the appliances that do not satisfy your needs completely. For example, if the size of your family has increased, your old microwave will not be sufficient to defrost a large turkey or a chicken.
